Aetna and Spravato™ – Is it covered?

Does Aetna cover Spravato™ (Esketamine)?

Aetna may cover Spravato, but approval depends on your specific health plan, diagnosis, and medical history. At Libertas Mind, we help patients navigate the prior authorization process and are often successful in securing coverage so treatment can begin without unnecessary delays. Aetna follows a defined set of clinical criteria that must be met before Spravato is approved.

This typically includes confirming the diagnosis, documenting past treatment attempts, and ensuring Spravato will be administered safely in a certified healthcare setting. Our care team guides you through every step so the process is smooth and clearly understood.

How to Check Aetna Spravato™ Coverage

Libertas Mind is in-network with most major insurance plans, including Aetna. Our care coordinators can review your benefits, confirm your eligibility, and help you navigate the approval process. We make it simple to understand your coverage and out-of-pocket costs.

Why Is Spravato™ Important for Depression Treatment?

Spravato is a safe and effective option for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). Clinical studies show that Spravato works quickly, with 40–60% of patients experiencing significant improvement depending on treatment duration.

Spravato is a nasal-spray medication derived from ketamine, which has been used for decades to help people with mood disorders. Because of its safety profile, Spravato must be administered in a certified doctor’s office, under medical supervision.

Spravato is not available at retail pharmacies and cannot be taken home.

REMS Certification and Treatment Safety

Spravato treatment is regulated under the REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) program. This ensures that Spravato is administered only in licensed, certified healthcare settings with trained medical staff.

Libertas Mind is a fully certified facility and follows all REMS-required safety protocols.
